Home Health Aides and Skilled Nurses

9689759a58a7cc28502b9626ee5c1e7aHome healthcare can be defined as an act of taking care of people in their own home and be looked after instead of being institutionalized in nursing homes and hospitals where they might feel depressed and isolated from their love ones. Our homes are where we unwind and relax, celebrate special times and move through the sad times. People living longer the aged are prone to many diseases which are sometimes difficult to treat because of a decline in their mental capabilities. Home healthcare also includes skilled nursing where a patient with a specific illness will be treated in the same way they are treated in a hospital with medicine given at the proper times and other treatments taken care of. Home healthcare services are provided by skilled nurses and home health aides. Skilled nurses can administer medications and disease management programs. Meanwhile, home health aides help seniors with daily activities such as bathing, eating, and walking. They may also provide assistance with monitoring bladder catheters, colostomy, or administering oxygen.

Home health aides are help the elderly, disabled and chronically ill people by monitoring patient condition by observing physical and mental condition, intake and output, and exercise. Home health aides support patients by providing housekeeping and laundry services; shopping for food and other household requirements; preparing and serving meals and snacks; running errands. He or she may also assists patients by providing personal services, such as, bathing, dressing, and grooming. Home health aides help patients care for themselves by teaching the use of cane or walker, special utensils to eat, special techniques and equipment for personal hygiene.

Skills are important in every job, but that is especially true when it concerns the health and well-being of the public. Skilled nurses deal with people in all conditions and they need to be able to do the job correctly to see positive results. Having skilled nursing around can greatly improve the overall health and wellness of the patients.  Having the availability of a skilled nurse in one’s home, often allows for a more comfortable and pleasant experience.

Seniors who are strong enough to live on their own but not enough to perform certain household chores may be in need of in home senior care services. Most elderly individuals prefer to stay in a familiar environment for as long as they can because like most of us, they treasure their independence. This is why it is much easier for them to accept the idea of senior home care than nursing homes. Through some help from a home care provider, seniors can be easily kept in good condition making it possible for them to preserve their dignity and independence. There are at least two main types of in home senior care services, namely skilled or custodial care and supportive or unskilled care. Skilled services are those provided by medical professionals, and these include nursing care, occupational, physical, speech and respiratory therapy, hospice care, social services, while supportive services are those provided by non-medical home caregivers. These home care providers offer help to seniors through such personal care as bathing, dressing, grooming, housekeeping, meal preparation, and shopping. Supportive services are aimed at helping an aging person deal with his deteriorating abilities, preserve his independence, and prevent relocation.
